Walking along the beautiful streets of Amsterdam, I noticed hooks sticking out the top floor of the houses. I was curious enough to ask why?
Amsterdam is a city filled with canals. The higher floors are the safest place to store anything that can be damaged in flooding. The houses have a large arm or hook sticking out on the top story. Items can be pulled to the desired floor.

| The homes have narrow staircases, furniture is lifted using the hooks |

These hooks vary from house to house, from very simple to decorative.
