Dubai New and Old

Dubai is such a contrast of New and Old.  The creek is close to the Old Souq is alive with activity.

"Together" 4.25 m.  Clad in a flowing white dish-dasha, the male figure has been sculpted in Carrara marble from Italy, while the kandoora-clad female sculpture is made of black granite from Sweden.

As I meet tourists on my walk, I ask where they were going; answer the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall.

Old Dubai has so much to see

Udaipur Cenotaphs

The best part about living in India is visiting a city more than once. I have been to Udaipur, Rajasthan three times. Another look at the Magnificent Royal Cenotaphs.  The May long weekend, John and I decided to travel to Udaipur, Rajasthan.  The temperature climbed to 43C one day, but I was determined to share this wonderful city with my Husband.

Our first stop after landing at 7:30 am, The Royal Cenotaphs,  or the Ahar Cenotaphs, are about 2 km east of Udaipur.  Ahar is well known for being the burial ground of the Mewar emperors.

We found a step well.  I was corrected in Udaipur that they are "Baodi"
After doing a search they are called "Baodi, Baoli, Baori" depending on who you talk to.
Anyone that has toured with me knows, I hunt for them any city I am in.

There are more than 250 cenotaphs of the maharajas of Mewar.  They were built over about 350 years. We noticed dates like 1620, 1861.  

A stone depicts the emperor and his spouses who committed the "Sati".  I have learned "Sati" is when the widow commits suicide by lighting herself on fire, it was outlawed in 1829.

"Dog Gone Tired"

A few weeks ago I was invited to submit 2 of my pictures to the AWA Delhi 2015 Glimpses Photo Exhibit and Auction.  An important NGO fundraiser.

Last night John and I attended the event.  All the pictures submitted were wonderful.  We were given ballot sheets to vote in categories.  Each picture had an auction sheet with the name of the picture but not the photographer.

The evening was filled with conversation, familiar and new faces, good food and drink.

At the end of the evening, prizes were awarded to the winner of each category, plus Most Coveted Photo. 

The auction closed and the pictures were purchased by the lucky auction winners.

I am thrilled to win for my picture "Dog Gone Tired", for Outstanding Photo: Conceptural/Aspriational, and also Most Coveted Photo of the event.  

I am happy I could contribute to the fundraiser.
